The Derby Research School at Wyndham Primary Academy
We are a key partner of the Derby Research School at Wyndham Primary Academy. This is part of a national network of Research schools, whose primary objective is to support the use of evidence to improve teaching practice. Research schools have been established to be a bridge between educational research and the application of it in classrooms.
The project focuses on two core elements:
• The Illuminate Project – Growing Professional Learning Communities
• The Illuminate Group – Enabling schools to achieve rigour in evidence based research
A half termly schedule of facilitated sessions will support the development of research skills, shape research projects, share findings and best practice and ultimately improve practice in the classroom.
We are delighted that Derby City University are supporting the project and that all facilitators are experienced Headteachers in conducting Evidence Based Practice.
The Illuminate Project – Growing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
PLCs are fundamentally about sharing best practice and promoting ongoing learning form within. The key focus of the Derby Research School PLC will be:
• Early Oracy
• Transition Maths from KS2-KS3
These sessions will be of particular interest to Research Champions within schools, Subject and Key Stage Leaders and EBT Champions.

The Illuminate Group – Enabling schools to achieve rigour in action research
The Illuminate Group will run a series of sessions to help schools develop the necessary skills, approaches and concepts to achieve rigour in their action research projects within their own schools. Following the 3 skills development sessions schools will be supported in engaging with peer support and coaching.
These sessions will enable schools to conduct new research, scale up an existing project within their school or help schools to collaborate with other schools to look at a larger scale research project.
